Meet the Team

  • Dr. Taylor McLendon, DVM
    Dr. Taylor McLendon, DVM

Dr. McLendon grew up in the Jacksonville area and always knew she wanted to come back. From a young age, she spent every day riding and almost every weekend competing in western performance events through the American Paint Horse Association. In high school and college, she traveled the country and competed up to an advanced level.  In 2013, Taylor took a break from competing to finish her undergraduate work at the University of Florida.

After completing her  bachelor’s degree, she continued at UF College of Veterinary Medicine.  She has known all along that she wanted to be an equine practitioner and spent her time in Vet school tailoring her education to maximize her equine knowledge base, quickly realizing she had a passion for equine lameness and sports medicine. During her time at UF’s College of Veterinary Medicine,  Dr. McLendon not only graduated with high honors as Salutatorian of the Class if 2019 but also served as president of the class for four years, president of the student chapter of the American Veterinary Medical Association (SAVMA) for one year, was very active with the student chapter of the American Association of Equine Practitioners (SCAAEP) as well as completing a certificate in Veterinary Business Management!

When not in school or around horses, she enjoys spending time on the water and fishing with her husband, Josh, taking trips to Walt Disney World with her friends and family and if that’s not enough she is  training for her next half marathon! We are excited and honored to have this talented Veterinarian joining the Mandarin Equine Team. In Taylor’s words “It has been a life-long dream of mine to work alongside Dr. Peggy Fuller, who has had a huge role in shaping my veterinary career”. Please help us welcome Dr Taylor McLendon!

Cheers for...Florida State Seminoles - 'Go Noles!'

What I love about Jacksonville: I love my family ties to Jacksonville.  Our friends and friends of the family go back several generation allowing for lots of history

What I enjoy doing away from work: When away from work, I enjoy taking a 'busman's' holiday.  I enjoy spending time with my animals and riding my horses as well as being a 'wanna be' gardener.  I have recently taken up beekeeping as well.  I also enjoy spending time with the 2 legged men in my life, my husband and son!

I grew up riding on a daily basis, competing in local hunter /jumper events and worked as a groom at a major show barn in Jacksonville, Florida to afford my riding habit!  I attended Florida State University for my under graduate work and the University of Florida for Veterinary school.  After graduating in 1986, I worked as an associate in a mixed animal practice in Macon, Georgia for 4 ½ years before moving “home”.  Mandarin Equine Veterinary Service was founded in 1991. Although my primary interest out of school was in reproduction, I have concentrated my efforts and spend a majority of my time over the last 28 years on soundness evaluations, lameness diagnostics and therapeutic treatments.  I serve as an adjunct professor for the University of Florida, teaching junior and senior veterinary student through a practice based equine clerkship.  I am a member of the AVMA, AAEP and the FAEP.  I am active on the Northeast Florida Equestrian Society serving as a board member for the Jacksonville Equestrian Center.  To further expand my diagnostic and treatment skills I attended the Chi Institute for Acupuncture in 1999.  I live on a small farm with my husband of 28 years, 3 horses, 4 dogs, several cats and our son when he is home from college.   I feel honored to be a part of this profession and meet every day with enthusiasm!

What I love about Jacksonville: The beaches and river!

What I enjoy doing away from work: Acroyoga

Jennifer grew up in Jacksonville and began riding at the age of at 6.   She started riding western, but at the age of 12 switched to riding Hunters and Jumpers.  She is still riding and only recently retired her horse Zippy (aka Romeo).  Jennifer started working for Mandarin Equine in 2000, first cleaning stalls then doing office work and now is employed as a full time tech.

What I love about Jacksonville: I love coming back each month to visit friends and be in a city again. We live way out in the country, so having a Publix, Target, and nice restaurants only 5 minutes away instead of 40 minutes is a treat!

What I enjoy doing away from work: I enjoy riding around the farm on 4-wheelers, training for half marathons, reading, day trips to Disney World (we’re 55 min away), traveling, and adventures!

Elizabeth grew up in Jacksonville riding and showing Hunters and Jumpers. She started doing the bookkeeping for Mandarin Equine as a college student in 2000. Over the last 20 years, Elizabeth has stepped out of her role a couple times when she taught elementary school, traveled with a Broadway National Tour, and later got married and moved to Plant City, FL.

She is now back in her role as bookkeeper working remotely from her small farm in Plant City. She and her husband have three daughters, two dogs, a horse, a donkey, and breed miniature Hereford cows. They enjoy coming back to visit Jacksonville each month.
